Biography of John Manga SAMA

Mr John Manga Sama was born on the 27th of June 1933 to Charles Eyum-a-Sama and Anna Enanga Sama, both of blessed memory, at Victoria.  He did his Primary education there and then proceeded to St. Joseph’s College Sasse in 1950 and later continued to the Gov’t Technical College ( GTC )  in Ombe.

Upon completion from Ombe, he did an internship at the Public Works Department in Kumba, from where he moved to the National Printing Press in 1962.  The next year, he married Margaret Nkeng Kemgang.  In 1964 he obtained a scholarship to pursue further studies in Leeds in the United Kingdom.

When he returned home, he rejoined the National Printing Press in Buea as an Offset Engineer.  In 1975 he was transferred to the National Printing Press in Yaounde.  He worked there for a decade before being transferred back to Buea in 1985.He worked in Buea until his retirement in 1989.

After his retirement, photography, which until then had been a passionate hobby, became his profession and he worked diligently at it until he took ill suddenly in October 2005.  Although he was evacuated to the UK in January 2006 for tests and treatment, his condition did not really improve and he returned home shortly afterwards. In September 2008, his health took a turn for the worse when he suffered what appeared to be a stroke and was rushed to the Reference Hospital in Douala for medical attention. Although he stabilized, he had suffered paralysis and loss of speech.  He was brought back to Buea where he continued to receive treatment at home until he finally passed away on Saturday 18th July 2009.

He was an active Christian, worshipping in the Catholic faith at St. Anthony’s parish in Buea Town, where he was a patron of the St. Anthony and Holy Trinity choir.

He leaves behind a wife, five children and eleven grandchildren to mourn him.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
